Tuesday Pinterest Fun - Maybe I'll Make This For Next Year

Our office doesn't have any restrictions on holiday decorations in cubicles.  One friend had a Santa chair cover.  My cubicle neighbor has a snowman display complete with ladder and flashing lights. Someone else still has her fall leaves spread out.  What do I have?  A jar of red and green star mints (popular! I need more!) and a card I received last year that features one of my favorite lines from Elf: "I just like smiling, smiling's my favorite."  I need more cheer for my desk!!

Enter this pin (link takes you to original blog instructions).  A cute knitted tree ornament.  But, you know me, that's too simple.  I need to make lots of them!  And a swagged garland to drape across the shared front of the cubicles!

Obviously this won't happen for this year.  I'm realistic enough by now to know that May or June is a reasonable goal.  My plan (as of now) is to use leftover sock yarn from my Seahawks sock projects and my Entrelac fingerless gloves to make trees, then crochet a garland upon which to hang them.  Because people are questioning my holiday spirit!  (Even though neighbor is letting me call it "our" display! Haha!)

Monday Morning Pinterest Fun

It's break time at work and I was going through my Pinterest boards, looking at all the great ideas I've never gotten around to making......and I was going to try to share pictures, but Pinterest and Blogger are not playing nice that direction.  So I'll post links instead.

One is a toilet paper roll holder (originally for sale on Etsy for $45!!!) that doesn't look very hard to recreate.  I would probably only make it hold a single additional roll, but I would love to embroider a design and have something functional and beautiful.  The bathroom is next on my redo list - time to get rid of the key lime green walls that clash with the avocado tile.  So when I decide on a shower curtain and towel theme, I can choose materials for this roll holder.  That seems like the logical way to do it!

And then there's these - I loved them so much I pinned them twice.  My brain says I could totally make a set for my desk at work, too.

I seem to be drawn to repurposed denim - after all, I still have a bag full of torn/ripped/worn-out jeans in my closet.  This skirt is so precious, I think my skirt-loving K has to have one.

Because I Like to Be Organized...

Just a little bit of housekeeping around the blog - getting things tidy before the holidays, you know how it goes!

I added a new page to track my stitching goals, and realized I didn't make any actual goals for 2012.  I removed the old lists from the sidebar.  I think I'll only keep the current year's goals on the front page.

This has made room for (drumroll) a section for most popular posts!  I was shocked to see that my post on the celtic knot granny square had over 1,000 views - and it's not even my pattern/technique/idea/whatever!  Anyway, I think it's cool to see what people are finding on my blog, so now you can see that, too!

Speaking of National Crochet Month, I'm already gathering ideas for next March.  I may actually make a blogging calendar for myself.  Or maybe not; that may be too much like telling myself what to do, and I'll rebel against myself, and it will be ugly.

Finally, I'm reorganizing some of my pinboards on Pinterest.  Yes, I'm that person.  So if you're following "Stitches" it's about to get divided - right now it's a collection of cross stitch, crochet and knit patterns/techniques/ideas/whatever.  And some things are also pinned under "To Do By Hand."  I'll have separate boards for cross stitch, sewing, and crochet/knit - that may become 2 boards, too.  I haven't decided yet.  This is just a heads up if you saw something I pinned that you liked, and you want to look for it again, I think this will actually make it easier.
